P S

4.00pm and the engineer has just left and my icicles (fingers) are slowly thawing as the radiators return to life.

Thank God for British Gas and my maintenance contract.

The temperature in the sitting room is now up to 58 degrees and climbing.

How very lucky we are in the West to have such comfort within easy reach.

Not that I am doing anything about it but at least I can now acknowledge that a New Year begins in a few hours time.

May it be a happy and healthy one for as many of you as possible.

  1. I am so glad they got it sorted out quickly for you Ray. Nothing makes you feel more miserable than a cold house!

  2. Not half as glad as I am Jean. There is a limit to how much physical activity one can use in order to keep warm and sitting for any length of time leads to rigor mortis.
(Literally) if for more than a few hours.
One of the greatest inventions to bless our chilly British Isles is that of central heating.
    Deo Gracias.

  5. Good news! We are having a cold spell (after it being 78 on Christmas Day) and I'm wearing a coat indoors and that's while the heat is working properly! Glad you are fixed back up. Happy New Year!

  6. Happy New Year to you Penny and yes it is great to have a warm house again.
I was 47 before I lived in a house with central heating but seem to have become a bit of a wimp in old age.
It has been unseasonably warm here this Winter but we have had and are still having tremendous amounts of rain.
That doesn't mean warm by your standards however, we are averaging around 12 degrees.

  7. Missed this because I was away over New Year, but I'm glad to hear that British Gas came up trumps and solved your problem. A cold house would have been no way to greet 2016!

    1. No, I have to admit to being slightly superstitious about the "whatever you do on New Year's day is what you will be doing for the rest of the year"
thing. Nonsense I know, but no harm in trying to clear up problems before the 1st Jan.
